Clean Bits from Dirty Pics
A series of digitally manipulated photographs
Date: 2000

In 1993 I had a piece of work censored at an exhibition in England on the grounds that it was "sick" and "obscene". This led me to question ideas of obscenity, how is it defined, by whom, how do those definitions change across histories, societies and differing genre of imagery.

These experiments have led me to deal with a range of different imagery ranging from Images of the Holocaust to Hardcore pornography. The works exhibited here represent some recent experiments with pornographic images. I have downloaded hardcore pornographic images from the Internet and have chosen to focus in on the "clean" bits in these "dirty" pictures. In doing so I wish to raise questions about the nature of obscenity, where is it located and how it is defined.

This project is soon to be developed into an interactive environment.
